Weekly Update for Sept 16-20

NEWS FROM THE LAST WEEK

What a great week.  Lots of positive referrals coming to the office and many smiling faces around the school.  The students are settling in nicely to their daily routines.  Thank you parents for helping and supporting your child during the start of the school year.

REPORTING ABSENCES

Our school does automated call outs everyday for unknown absences. The system will email, text or call parents automatically.  To prevent these messages, please contact our school and let us know in advance of any student absence.  You can call 780-929-8663 and leave a quick message.  You can also fill out our online absence form.  The call outs are important so we can keep all of the students safe. Thank you for your support, it is appreciated.

VERIFICATION FORMS

The verification forms were sent out Friday.  Please log into your Power School account and complete the verification forms.  These forms are important to fill out so that we the most current information for the student. There will also be our walking permission form. This form is needed so that you child can participate in our Terry Fox Walk and any other walking activities throughout the year.  Please contact the office for assistance with these forms.

TERRY FOX WALK

Our Terry Fox School Run is just around the corner! We are honoured that our school will be joining the efforts of over 3 million students across Canada in carrying on Terry’s legacy by raising funds for cancer research. EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROTOCOL

Last week we practiced an emergency evacuation. The students did very well. For the rest of the month, we will continue practice our emergency protocols.  More Information can be found on our website or using this link

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING

One of our school's goals is to improve the social emotional wellness of our students. Improving social emotional wellness will help improve student learning.  Our school is already doing a lot of great things.  From teaching regulation strategies like Zones of Regulation and MindUP, to different opportunities for clubs and recess activities. We also host assemblies for students to both celebrate student achievement and to teach some character education. Every week, Mme El Khatib and Mr. Larson will be working with students at each grade level with character education and wellness. This month, the focus is on respect. Students will be learning how to "fill each others bucket".

SCHOOL COUNCIL AND FUNDRAISING SOCIETY

The Annual General Meeting for School Council and Fundraising Society are on September 18th, 2019.  School Council will be from 6:15pm - 7:15pm and the Fundraising Society will be from 7:15pm - 8:15pm in our school's staff room.

We welcome all parents to these meetings. It is a great opportunity to learn how these two groups support our school.  The parents who take the time to volunteer, really help our school and students. These groups are looking for volunteers in various roles throughout the year. From helping hand out hot lunch, to helping at specific event, to attending the meetings. Any help is greatly appreciated.
