Weekly Update- March 19

HELLO BELLEVUE FAMILIES

It has been a busy and anxious week. We know all of our families are trying to adjust to our current "new normal". Expect to hear from us more.  Mrs. El Khatib did not want to miss out on birthdays this week.  Please see our Facebook page for the birthday announcements.

SCHOOL BELONGINGS

We are happy to let you know that the staff have been working hard getting everything ready for our current reality of continuing education at home.  We have packed up student belongings and pick up will be on Monday, March 23rd throughout the day.  We are using this link to schedule your pick up time. Please sign up by 12pm on Friday, March 20th.

We are respecting public health requests and we ask that you use the drive thru. A staff member will bring out your belongings to you.   You will not have access to the school at this time.  You can also pick up friends, please just indicate that on the form.  You can add multiple kids to each line.  Contact Mr. Larson if you need any support.

If you have any library books, there will be a bin to return books at the the drive thru.  There are some items that are not labelled and we are keeping them safe at the school.   We will get them back to you at a later date.

TEACHERS CONNECTING

You will receive an email from you child's teacher tomorrow.  Any material they are providing will be with their belongings and many teachers are creating google classrooms for remote learning. Teachers will provide details and initiate connecting with students. They are busy preparing materials and setting up everything to support the learning.  Expect to hear from them tomorrow. They are eager to re-connect

FAMILY WELLNESS

This is most important over the next week or so, focus on you and your family's wellness. We will be providing work, but the focus should be adjusting to this current normal.  Take time to do things that  help each other and allow time for fun. This is a unique and challenging situation.  We are here to support you and will be available to help out. Please connect with family and honour requests made by the Health Authorities.  Hopefully this will be over soon.   We will begin more communication through our teachers and school sites, to help you out.   A comprehensive document of supports will be coming out from our district today.

If you need support, reach out and we will do our best during this difficult time to support you.

CHARACTER ED ASSEMBLIES

This past month, we discussed peer conflict and bullying with our grade level assemblies.  We also talked about positive ways to resolve conflict and how to show kindness to others.

COVID-19 VIRUS

At school, we continue to promote good hygiene with safe coughing and hand washing.  We encourage students to cough into their elbow and wash their hands very well on a regular basis.  Our custodians continue to clean our classrooms, hallways, and washrooms with disinfectant on a regular basis.  We did send out information this week about this issue.

Often it is tough to know when to talk with kids about issues like this and when to be concerned.  We want to help students understand and not be misinformed. We do not want them to spread misinformation and create more anxiety for themselves and others.  When appropriate or needed, we do have conversations to help alleviate anxiety and develop better understandings.  If your child is asking questions, provide some accurate information and focus on prevention. Here is a comic that may help students understand.

If your child is feeling ill, follow the appropriate protocols and perhaps keep them at home, if they have similar symptoms.
